Abstract

Obesity is global health problem characterized by an increase in body fat, leading to adverse metabolic, biomechanical, and psychosocial health consequences. Herbal supplementation have become increasingly popular due with fewer adverse effects and lower cost Previous study showed that Portulaca oleracea L. (PO) are one of the plants that can treating obesity. This revew demonstrates that PO exhibits potential as an alternative therapeutic agent in the management of obesity through multiple pharmacological mechanisms, including reduced weight gain & body fat, improved insulin sensitivity, reduced LDL-C, triglycerides, Improved weight, BMI, liver function with multiple mechanisms that can help manage obesity, primarily through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and lipid & glucose methabolism regulation. These effects are associated with the synergistic action of its bioactive constituens, including homoisoflavonoids, oleracein E and oleracein L, omega-3 Fatty Acids (ALA), quercetin, rutin, and polyphenolic compound. The dose effevtive in animal studies is between 5%-10% extract PO for 12 weeks  and 500-700 mg for 4-8 weeks in clinical trial. This eview articles suggest a need for further, advanced-phase clinical trials in humans to establish an optimal and safe dosage for long-term use.
